I had previously read Pollan's "In Defense of Food" and loved it. So, I expected a thought-provoking, well-researched novel on the scary - and I would say downright deplorable - conditions in which our nation's food is grown, and that's exactly what Pollan provides to readers. To boil it down, the resounding message to me is 'ignorance is bliss.'
