Buying Patriots: A Novel of Survival in the Coming Collapse

This is a very difficult read. I had this book thrust into my hands by an enthusiastic relative and survivalist. Ergo, I had to read every word of this "present". The author knows his stuff for the most part, but he sure ain't no Joseph Conrad. The book is curiously PC and not what I expected. It seems to be a recipe for "how to start a militia". The weapons recommended and discussed are not current. For example, there are much better accurate, robust, and nearly maintenance free semi-automatic rifles in production now. So even some of the technical details may not be useful.

The narrative is god awful. Some aspects range from silly to questionable. For example, there are tens of thousands of criminal gangs in cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. These are army division size units with no compunctions about killing. And yet, these threats are not considered. Drunken biker gangs will be the least problem for a few dozen people blockaded in a fortified house. The chapter that included the Communist cannibals was, well ... what a joke?

I would not buy the book. It's neither entertaining nor credible.
